A thermal and fluidic device for automated hybridization of biological material on glass-based slides and optical imaging of the hybridization results is herein disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the device consists of a rotational stage with a plurality of chamber structures on its surface to contain biological and chemical fluids, a plurality of motorized limbs that hold and rotate individual slides, a plurality of fluorescence optical pickup units (FOPUs) that image the hybridization results on the glass slides, and a plurality of motorized liquid dispensers that deposit biological and chemical liquids into the chamber structures on the rotational stage. It is further disclosed that the device has components that adjust the temperature of the liquids within the chambers, and means to manage and dispose waste material.
